Title: Fate Has Ways, Chapter 2
Rating/Genre: R / AU, Romance, Comedy
Summary: They urged him to start a new adventure – the kind Kyuhyun isn’t sure he is ready to take. But with flashy lights, stunning wardrobes and a man who evidently needs him (and his body), Kyuhyun may have to think otherwise.
Kyuhyun thought to offer the first aid kit, feeling slightly guilty as he watched the man he reflexively nailed on the cheek being tended by his guards. Though the man made gestures that he was fine and made to sit on one of the nearby couches, Kyuhyun felt the wary eyes on him didn’t leave. Same guards were looking at him like he was a walking violent machine. He wasn’t that violent. He was just surprised with the contact that was all.
The seniors finally caught up; they were crowding by the other door and seemingly interested with what was happening. Ryeowook tried not bringing them out but Mrs. Lee was insistent. She was saying something about not every day they had young, good-looking visitors by their door. She wanted to watch.
“Sir, are you sure—
“I’m fine,” the now composed gentlemen waved his hand. “Bring the documents. Let us not waste anymore time.” He made to look at Kyuhyun and the playful tug on his lips didn’t leave even for a second.
Kyuhyun felt his spine tingled in absolute mystery. He just punched the guy and the guy wasn’t even angry? The world must be backwards today.
The man gracefully took the folder from one of his henchmen (Kyuhyun thought those suited men were) and fanned the papers neatly on the coffee table, showing them with open palms. “My apologies for the advancement; I merely couldn’t help myself with sheer joy. My name is Choi Siwon and your application is hand-picked by me. That saying, I wanted to see the applicant myself. This is the address you gave me and surely we can arrange you staying somewhere closer to the office.”
“I’m sorry?” Kyuhyun stared at the papers. Then at Siwon. Then at the papers again.
Siwon looked concern. “No need to apologize. I did state to offer lounging, convenience and food in exchange for modeling for me. But I need you to provide your own home clothing, of course. I can’t provide everything."
“No, wait.” Kyuhyun wasn’t looking at the man in front of him, instead reached for the papers and skimmed them in record time. “I, you must be mistaken,” Kyuhyun then saw his name, picture and other details he didn’t remember sharing aside from his enrolment request. “I didn’t apply for anything.” Not that he knew of consciously. There weren’t cases of ghost job applying, was there?
“No?” Siwon didn’t look too surprised. “But you must have? See, that’s you, isn’t it?”
Yeah, his picture taken candidly with his then-trimmed hair and silly Angry Bird blue shirt, courtesy of Sungmin for a Happy No-Reason-To-Give present two months ago. That picture on the right side of the paper of his so-called application form. Didn’t Ryeowook keep those photos?
He finally looked at Ryeowook, eyes questioning. The latter was quick to read what the look was for. Ryeowook raised his hands in defense, shaking his head.
“Still,” Siwon interrupted and continued, “Seeing as this was not of your consent, I understand. But you’re not bad yourself.” The once-over on him was not left unnoticed and Kyuhyun had the urge to clobber the man who was eyeing him like he was some sort of statue. “You are fit to be my model. You really have to.”
“Model?” Kyuhyun sputtered at that. With his octopus hair, acne-fied face, bad clothing combination and awkward walking, model-material? There was no way. “Aren’t there like, people for that somewhere? You’ve come to the wrong place. I don’t model. I’m not a model. I’m a nurse and I’m fine where I am.”
That perfect smiling face changed; panic seemed to flash across Siwon’s feature. It was as if Siwon wasn’t expecting the decline immediately. Even his men were murmuring about it too. “B-but—
“Sorry. Please discard this application. I honestly didn’t send that. If you would be as kind as to leave…”
Suddenly, the elderly were surrounding Kyuhyun, trapping to not let him exit the room. Mrs. Lee came up to him, pinching his nose like a punishment. Kyuhyun didn’t know what that was for.
“I can’t believe you’re turning down the nice man’s offer to a new work!” Mrs. Lee putted. “And we spent almost two hours perfecting your resume!”
“It was hard distracting Tiny Ryeowook from his laptop to find a job! C’mooooon, just model for Mr. Dimples.” Mr Kim added, patting Kyuhyun’s head like a little kid. As any normal person to realize the statement he just heard, gaping first then fuming for two seconds was a good excuse to burst.
“You were the ones… I can’t believe you!”
“Ooops.” The elderly flinched. “But you needed to go out. We all want you to go out.”
Kyuhyun couldn’t believe he was debating with a crowd three times older as he was and that his tasks and schedule for the day was a big mess now, thanks to Siwon and his henchmen. Having a sudden headache didn’t actually help anything either.
“The contract says for a month because the fashion show is on the second week of next month. Won’t you give yourself a month to do something exciting? It’s modeling! You get to wear beautiful clothes.” Mr. Kim was once again giving that Positive Lecture Talk again.
“I swear I don’t…”
As gentle as he could, Siwon stepped in and schooling his almost default business talking, “Mr. Cho Kyuhyun, what they say is true. A month preparation for a prestigious gathering is a month I’m asking of your time. I’ll even pay more than I offered previously.”
Some of the seniors went giddy, saying, “Money for the Nursing Home!”
Kyuhyun mumbled annoyingly to himself how Siwon could simply talk so smoothly like second air, easily earning the fragile hearts of the nearby listeners. He really wanted to punch the perfection out of him… again.
“Please model for me. I have been looking all over Seoul to find as someone as perfect as you.”
Kyuhyun swore he heard some of the old ladies swooning.
“Will you stop with the—
The same hand Siwon touched before got gripped again, squeezing. “Please.”
Sometimes the unexpected things kept on coming, probably trying to make a life a bit more interesting when things were done repeatedly. Pattern is comfort and Kyuhyun knew that, to embrace it with the sense of security and responsibility. Having to suddenly thrown into a field he least understand like modeling and fashion was like being tossed into a battle game without knowledge and weaponry. He was as naked as he would feel once he would strut on the catwalk. How the hell would he survive that?
He grew reluctant and Siwon sensed his fright. His hand was still atop of Kyuhyun’s, warm. It was almost scary.
“I’ll teach you everything you know. That one month will be dedicated to nothing but preparation for that event. Rest assured that you will be great and confident on the stage and with my clothes.”
Kyuhyun’s mind halted there, finally catching a missing piece of information there. “You will design the clothes? You?” Well, with a closer look of his chic attire, shining shoes and perfectly matched black watch, Siwon seemed to be the designer type. Sort of.
“Yes. And a designer knows the best body type for his clothes.” Siwon’s eyes never left his. “Trust me.”
It was because of the Nursing Home he agreed to model, not for Siwon and his stupid, reassuring eyes. Kyuhyun made sure to that was all there was to it.
“Do you need me to send someone to get you? The office is rather far from the bus stop and your luggage might be—
“I’m fine. I’ll be there.”
He felt Siwon’s gaze at him, that look that spoke of a profound respect and something more he couldn’t point out exactly. But Kyuhyun wasn’t just about to spoil his now new job with stuff being offered to him so effortlessly. He could commute just fine.
There were about three black cars parked in front of the Home, one of which Siwon was the passenger to one driver and other else were… Kyuhyun didn’t want to know why there were “others.” He just thought that maybe Siwon was this rich figure who had a lot of money to spend on to bring his passé anywhere. Oh, a rich figure who was also a designer at that.
“Give me your phone.” Siwon suddenly said.
“Please. I’ll be quick.”
And he was, hastily typing in his number with label Prince Siwon. Kyuhyun almost snorted at the reality in there when the man himself leaned closer to speak softly against his ear, “Just, you know how to reach me. In case you need anything.”
“Do you always do this?” Kyuhyun, with all his might, tried not elbow Siwon on the face. This close proximity was getting habitual in just a single day of meeting.
“Do what?” Siwon asked, rather innocently if Kyuhyun ever witnessed one.
Kyuhyun didn’t answer in return and kept his phone away, stepping back. Suddenly he didn’t want know the answer to that question he asked first. “Never mind.”
“Work begins on Monday. I expect you to be prompt. Practice starts immediately.” Siwon said, his business self suddenly coming out when the elderly started to flock by the entrance, watching them with such amused curiosity from a good distance.
Siwon bowed and got in the car, the engine coming into life before zooming away with the two other vehicles. Kyuhyun exhaled the air he belatedly realized he was holding in, watching the visitors disappearing. Good riddance.
“Well, that went well.” Mr. Kim said. Kyuhyun resisted the urge to bury himself in the garden behind the building.
“I still can’t believe that they’d respond so quickly. You’d think of they’d reply after two-three days. That man must really want to find his model.” Old lady Lee told genuinely, perked up to beam up at their care-taker. “Congratulations on your new work, Kyuhyunnie.”
Where was a good, cold compressor for his forehead when he needed one? Kyuhyun wasn’t sure anymore what he got himself into.
No, wait, what the seniors got Kyuhyun into. Was there an option of turning back?
A/N: Ah, progress. I like it when something progresses in my story. One moment I’d think that I keep on beating around the bush and then lo and behold, something is starting to move in the story! We’ve yet to see what kind of adventure for Kyuhyun that has Siwon in it. Would it be crazy? Would it fashionably romantic? Would there be maniacal cameos of the others? Only time and update would know!
But, oh, let us not expect easy waters for Kyuhyun because the challenge has yet to come! (why do I speak like I’m one of those commenter during the last clips of the videos or anything? I loled.)
Yes, darlings, comments are lovely and make my heart quibble in delight. I do apologize for not replying to you guys on the first chapter. I was making haste on creating the second installment. I hope you liked what you read.
Much thanks and kisses!
